Progression

The principle of progression refers to the intentional manner in which a program is designed to progress according to the physiological capabilities of the kinetic chain and the goals of the client.

An integrated training program follows the progressive training paradigm described below:

1. Develop proper structural integrity of the kinetic chain before activity specific training.
2. Correct all kinetic chain imbalances.
3. Develop proper muscle balance.
4. Establish optimum multiplanar postural control.
5. Develop optimum levels of stabilization strength, core strength and neuromuscular efficiency prior to extremity strength, prime mover strength or explosive power.
6. Establish optimum levels of activity specific functional strength, neuromuscular efficiency and reactive neuromuscular control.
