Have the client take 50 mg of niacin on an empty stomach. Within 30 minutes the client should have one of three reactions to the niacin that then categorizes them into one of three metabolic types.
1. If the client’s skin turns red and they feel very hot and itchy then they are a fast oxidizer or “Protein Type”.
2. If the client feels warmer and has some color in their face then they are a balanced oxidizer or “Mixed Type”.
3. If the client feels no effects then they are a slow oxidizer or “Carbohydrate Type”.
This test should only be only used as part of the rest of the Metabolic Typing test and not as a stand alone test.
