Prone Hip Extension Mechanism Assessment
1. Have the client lay prone on the assessment table while standing to the side at waist level.
2. Place the superior hand on the erector spinae, spanning the fingers with the thumb being placed on the ipsilateral side with the index finger placed on the contralateral side.
3. With the inferior hand spanned place the thumb on the ipsilateral gluteus and the fingers on the hamstrings.
4. The client is asked to raise the leg into extension as the practitioner assesses the firing sequience.
The normal firing sequence is:
1. Gluteus maximus
2. Hamstrings
3. Contralateral erector spinae
4. Ipsilateral erector spinae
